A big weekend of Senior Doubles action takes place across the country with the QF's & SF's of the O'Neill's All-Ireland Championships down for decision. Four QF ties, one in each province, sees the four provincial champions enter the fray. Reigning champs Paul Brady & Michael Finnegan will again be favourites to advance to the final, whilst last years beaten finalists Tom Sheridan & Brian Carroll will also have a big say in the final outcome of the title. The Kells clubmen pushed Brady & Finnegan 21-20 in an epic 2012 final. Last year's finalists Killian Carroll & Brendan Fleming have formed an excellent partnership, and will be aiming to go one better than 2013. Connaught champions Rikki O'Gara & Damian Martin will be hoping to build on an impressive provincial final win over 2009 champions Dessie Keegan & Joe McCann, when they take on last weekends Singles finalist Diarmuid Nash and partner Niall Malone. See above for full fixture list. All the focus will descend on St Coman's, Roscommon on Sunday for the SF's. Preceding the two Men's SF's will be the Ladies SF between Catriona Casey/Aishling O'Keefe & Amy Corrigan/Pauline Gallagher. The Mayo ladies will be hoping to exact revenge from the last time these pairings met, when the Cork duo claimed the 60x30 doubles crown in September. Awaiting them in the final will be Kerry's experienced duo, and reigning champs, Maria Daly & Ashley Prendiville. |

It was a great night in the County Lodge Hotel Aughagower last night for the Mayo GAA Handball Awards night. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny presented all the recepients with their awards and took time to have a chat with each person. He also made sure that everyone got plenty of photos and took time to pose with everyone, much to the annoyance of his PA who wanted to rush proceedings but Enda was having none of it! Well done to our own Kevin Fahey who was MC for the night who did a brilliant job and had research done on the Taoiseach's handballing past! Congratulations to all the Handball Award winners, especially our own club members, Jennifer Fahey, Pauline Gallagher, Kevin Geraghty and Kevin Fahey. Swinford GAA Handball Club are holding a table quiz in the White House Swinford on Date has been changed to Friday 7th February at 9pm. This is a fundraising initiative to support remedial works being carried out at Swinford indoor alley. Currently, no competitions can take place in the alley due to lack of basic facilities in the alley. This cannot be sustained in the long term as it means that our competitors are at a complete disadvantage when they enter championship matches. Basic facilities are also needed for training our future competitors to the highest standard if we as a club are to remain at the top of our sport in the years to come. We would ask that all sporting and other organisations within Swinford would support the Quiz on the 7th of February in the White House. It is ten years since the current club was set up and in that time we are the only handball club to have attained 53 All Ireland titles from Juvenile up to senior level and a further two world titles in 2012. So come along for a fun night out and help us to continue to support our juvenile and adult players who will be the stars of the future. Thanks to all those who came to the EGM of Swinford GAA Handball Club, which was held in the White House Swinford on Friday 17th January. A very successful meeting took place with lots of ideas and plans to move the club forward this year. Thanks to Rita and Shane Campbell the White House for hosting the meeting. Officers elected for 2014 are as follows: President: Eugene Maloney, Chairperson: Kevin Fahey, Asst Chairperson: Pauline Gallagher, Secretary: Deirdre Fahey, Asst Secretary: Caroline Tunney, Treasurer: George Miller, P.R.O. : Jonathan Geraghty. Social Committee: Mary Woodlock & Rita Campbell. Swinford GAA representatives present were, Chairperson Shane Campbell & P.R.O. Douglas Kelly. Thanks to Kevin Geraghty outgoing chairperson who chaired the meeting and to George Miller for his excellent treasurers report. Special thanks to all the players, members and parents who attended. It was proposed by the social committee to hold a table quiz on the 8th of February to raise funds for works to be carried out on the existing alley. More details to follow nearer the date. Thanks again for the input from all those present! Swinford junior B team were in kingscourt to contest the all Ireland club semi final on Saturday last. Our team of Peter Cassidy Seamus Casserly Chris Gavaghan and George Miller were defeated by Tynryland club. Peter and Seamus gave a good account of themselves in both singles matches with Chris and George meeting a tough doubles pairing from Tynryland who beat them 21-4 21-17 leaving too much to do for our final singles player Seamus Casserly. However, it was a great achievement for the Swinford team to have come this far in the competition to get to semi finals stage. Well done to Ballaghdereen who won the senior club title yet again. Congrats to all concerned.
