Mayo Champions Swinford have reached the final of the Connacht club 40 x 20 championship thanks to their victory over Sligo standard-bearers Castleconnor, in last Fridays provincial semi-final played at Bofield. Swinford got the better of the club who reached the All Ireland club 60 x 30 semi finals in June by 121-89.
In the opening game Castleconnor's Martin Cooney had a terrific battle with Swinford's Peter Cassidy. In a very even contest it finished 15-21, 21-16. In the doubles match Castleconnor's Tom Foody and Michael Browne took on George Miller and Peter Gavigan. The Castleconnor duo lost the opening game 12-21 and in the second game Tom Foody picked up a knee injury which further hampered the Sligo team's chances. Brown and Foody found themselves quickly 18-4 behind but staged a remarkable recovery which saw them just pipped at the end, by 19-21.
In the final singles match Castleconnor's Mark Murphy was edged out by 10-21, 12-21 by Swinford's Seamus Casserly.
